Gospel comes from Jesus Christ

The Rev. James S. Lindgren

Pastor, First Evangelical

Lutheran Church

Iron Mountain

“I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.”

Galatians 1:11-12

Paul wants to make it clear the gospel he preached is not something that he or other men made up. The other apostles were there with Jesus throughout His ministry. They saw, heard and witnessed His miracles and teaching. Paul was a defender of the Jewish faith at that time. He was not with them nor was he a student of Jesus. But he was a strong persecutor of the church. Then he met Jesus on the road to Damascus. His whole perspective and life changed. He began to preach Jesus the Christ crucified and risen from the dead. He did not learn the gospel from the other apostles. He learned from direct contact with Jesus. Jesus is the Crucified Savior from sin who died and was buried and raised from the dead and lives forevermore. He is with us today. Paul preached the gospel that Jesus, the risen one, had given to Him personally.

We have the words of Jesus. We have the Word of God, the Bible. Let us read and study His Word daily. Let us feed on this living Word, this life changing Word and this life-giving Word. Let us trust in Jesus as our Savior from sin. May we confess our sin, turn from our sins, claim the forgiveness Jesus gives and live the amended life of Christ’s declared righteousness through faith in Him.
