Daughters set July meeting

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Daughters of Isabella Circle 367 will hold their next meeting on Thursday, July 6, at noon in the Immaculate Conception Faith Formation Center with their annual potluck luncheon.

Bingo will be played with cash prizes awarded. All guests and prospective members are welcome.

Past Regent Marcene Fuse opened the meeting on June 1 in the absence of the regent. The charter was draped for the two deceased members, Caroline Hansen, who passed on May 5 and Mary Jane Creed on May 26. The rosary was led by Dorothy Schinderle in their memory.

The Pledge of Allegiance and to the flag of Michigan was said and the ode was sung by all.

Chancellor Louise Plant led the opening prayer and presented a spiritual reading on St. Anthony (of Padua).

St. Anthony was born in Portugal in 1195. At age 15 he entered the monastery. He changed his birth name Ferdiand to Anthony when he later became a poor Franciscan friar.

At age 36, he died on June 13, 1231 on the outskirts of Padua, where he was supposed to give a sermon in the local church.

Pope Pius X11 proclaimed Anthony a saint of the Catholic church in June 1946. He is considered to be the saint of the people. You will see the statue of St. Anthony in many homes and gardens.

June Hail Mary prayers were said for Barbara Tippet. June birthdays recognized for Beverly Chartier, June Izzo and Mary Menghini.

The club obligation was taken and the drill for the good the order.The closing prayer was led by the chancellor and ended by singing “We’re The Daughters of Isabella” with hands held in the unity of sisterhood.

Lunch was served by Marlene Johnson. Cards were played with first Delores Hamby and second Dorothy Schinderle in push.

Remember Mass for Caroline Hansen will be held on July 5 at 12:10 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church and Mass for Mary Jane Creed will be Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church. The Aug. 3 meeting hostess will be Lu Villa.
