IRON MOUNTAIN — Changes seem to be a way of everyday life in today’s world — with some easier to adapt to than others.

Changing the routine of the Monday morning Golden K meeting made for a very pleasant day. Not only did the weather cooperate — just being privileged to use the newest pavilion at the City Park in Iron Mountain made the day very special.

Once a year, the Golden Kers take time out for a picnic and a fun time just for themselves, spouses and guests. Thanks to Al Calari for coming early and getting the music set-up. His efforts were greatly appreciated. Not to forget Dr. Paul Jacobs who arrived almost at the same time the sun rose to put his chair down and declare dibs on the pavilion. Then Bill Roberts came along with the coffee and doughnuts, just in the nick of time. As members began arriving, the planned picnic was showing signs of a relaxing day.

Mary Jane Nelson is serving as chairperson for July.

The welcome song greeted guests, Tom and Mary Bugni and Kathy Arnold, director of RSVP. Happy Birthday was sung for Jeannine Polkinghorne.

Kathy Arnold mentioned T-shirts will be available at the Aug. 21 meeting at Pine Mountain. She would like all volunteers to make a large showing at the meeting at Pine Mountain to let the people presenting the program on aging and adult services know how vital volunteers are and how many residents do volunteer services on a daily basis, throughout the area.

Sitting back, relaxing and visiting was the order of the day. The noon hour approached so did Zollner’s Catering. As the food was displayed the appetites grew. The variety was phenomenal and of course one has to try a little of everything. All in all a pleasant day — good friends and good food.

The Golden K will meet July 24, at the First Presbyterian Church on Hamilton Avenue in Kingsford. Paul Ward will have Lt. Derek Dixon, from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department as guest speaker. He plans on addressing the drug problem, namely the opioid epidemic.

The Golden Throats will sing at Evergreen, July 26.
