Respite Education and Support Tools training

IRON MOUNTAIN — Respite Education and Support Tools, or REST, training will be offered from 9 to 5 p.m. Monday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

Everyone is asked to arrive 15 minutes before the session is to start. Preregistration is required.

REST is an originally designed educational course that provides respite training to adults and teens who want to offer care to those in need and provide assistance to their caregivers. A REST companion, volunteer or paid, provides the valuable service of time.

A REST-trained companion/respite provider spends one-on-one time with an adult or senior, giving only as much time as willing and able to give.

The ultimate goal of this training course is to assist individuals to become effective companions and respite workers by learning the three key steps of support: Prepare, Care and Connect.

The REST training program is made available in the Iron Mountain area by the U.P. Area Agency on Aging/UPCAP.

This is a nationally recognized certification that is eligible for nursing and social work continuing education credit and is open to the general public.

There is no charge to participate in this training. There will be a time built in for lunch and breaks with snacks.

Those interested in participating in this training can call 1-800-305-8137, dial 211 or go online to www.upcap.org.
