Parkinson Society group meeting Thursday at First Presbyterian
KINGSFORD — The Parkinson Society of Dickinson County area, a support group for people with Parkinson Disease, their caregivers, family and friends, will gather on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 395 Hamilton Ave. in Kingsford.
The meeting begins with a time for socializing and coffee, and continues with music, exercises, business items and a program. Lunch will be available at noon.
Fall risk assessment sign-ups will also be available at this meeting.
The program in January will be presented by Erin McIntyre, PT, DPT, on the Otago Exercise program offered at Dickinson County Healthcare System Rehabilitation Services.
The program emphasizes strength and balance exercises to reduce the risk of falls and fall related injuries. People with Parkinson Disease are at risk for falling due to the nature of the disease.
McIntyre will discuss ways to reduce this risk. There will be time for questions and answers.
All area Parkinson Disease patients are welcome to attend this and any of the support group meetings.
