Northwoods Blizzard Blast on Saturday

CONOVER, Wis. — The Northwoods Blizzard Blast Event Committee has announced the event schedule for the upcoming winter festival Saturday at the Conover Community Park. All proceeds from the event benefit northwoods area Fire and EMS Departments.

Billed as “Winter Fun for Everyone,” activities on the park grounds kick off at 10 a.m. and continue until the trophy and awards presentation at 4 p.m. There is no admission fee to the park. All events are free for spectators to enjoy. Single event tickets will be available for purchase for those who want to get in on the action.

Recliner Races, Ice Bowling and Slap Shot Hockey events, along with open skating, will be on the ice rink in the center of the park.

The baseball diamond will host the Snowshoe Baseball games.

Snowboarding demonstrations and downhill sledding will happen on the sledding hill at the south end of the park.

Children will revel in the Dogsled Dash event as well as face painting and pony rides. The Fun for Kids area features winter carnival style games with prizes for all children. Children will also enjoy Snow Art Fun, using nature’s own materials to create art in the snow.

More serene activities include horse-drawn sleigh rides and a cross-country ski event. Rides will depart the park every 15 minutes and travel through scenic forest lands. Cross-country ski enthusiasts may enjoy guided tours of the newly expanded Pioneer Creek Ski Trail, choosing from tours of 1.5 or 4.5 miles in length.

Demonstration and instruction in archery, snowshoeing and more will be done throughout the day.

Busy carvers will be at work on their designs for the Snow Sculpting Competition.

The Northwoods Blizzard Blast Artisan Bazaar will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Conover Community Center adjacent to the park. Hand-crafted alpaca knit items, seasonal crafts and nature inspired jewelry will be showcased. Try tasty samplings of artisan breads, dips, cheeses, coffee and wine and take home your favorites. Wildlife art, hand carved wooden creations and chainsaw carvings will also be featured.

Sandwichs, s’mores, snacks, and refreshments are available all day. Warming bonfires and heated restrooms are located throughout the park.

The Conover Community Park is east of Highway 45 on Highway K. To reserve your spot in the competitions or for more information, go online to www.blizzard-blast.com, the Northwoods Blizzard Blast page on Facebook or call 715-547-8120.
