IM/K Branch of AAUW accepting applications for non-traditional scholarship

IRON MOUNTAIN — American Association of University Women Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch has announced they are accepting applications for their Non-Traditional Scholarship.

AAUW is an organization whose mission is to promote equality for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. In support of this mission, the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW is offering the Non-Traditional Scholarship to local women who are 22 years of age or older that are pursuing a certificate program, an associate’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree program in the fall.

The intention of this scholarship is to open or re-open the door for new or returning students who have been away from education for a period of time and have chosen to return to college to improve their employability skills. Past recipients of this scholarship may not reapply.

The amount of the scholarship will be $500. One scholarship winner will be chosen based on a variety of factors, including financial need, likelihood of success, and a personal essay.

The following items must be with an application in order to be considered for the scholarship:

— Letter of acceptance or copy of schedule for fall;

— Scholarship application;

— Essay.

Only completed applications will be considered and should be submitted to the above address. The due date for receipt of applications is April 24.

Decisions will be made by May 10. The scholarship winner will be contacted by the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW and will be invited to attend the annual Awards meeting at 6:45 p.m. May 23.

The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Branch of AAUW organizes several community fundraisers throughout the year in order to provide this scholarship.
