Library plans reading event Thursday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Library has planned its upcoming activities through March 30.

Tuesday

Celebrate our community of readers with Community Leaders, Community Readers Storytime at 10 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. March is Reading Month and the library will present stories read by leaders in our community. Local government officials, police officers, firefighters, and more become Community Readers during this series of preschool storytimes for children from infant to age 5.

Thursday

Parents and their children are invited to the Every Child Ready to Read Workshop at 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Everyone is invited to engage with children from infant to age 5 in simple but powerful learning experiences that demonstrate the importance of incorporating early literacy activities in the daily home routine. Those who attend the workshop will receive valuable learning resources and have the opportunity to win prizes.

Saturday

Family Games Day at the Dickinson County Libraries. Games will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway. Kids, teens and families are invited to drop in any time during the day to play a variety of board and card games, or can bring their own games.

Community Leaders, Community Readers Storytime at 10:30 a.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway.

Take on the role of the naturalist during “Galapagos: The Weird and Wonderful” program at 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Explore what makes the Galapagos Islands so unique with the stories, “Galapagos George” and “Island: A Story of the Galapagos,” and play the Collect the Clues game to identify mysterious animals from this island. Then, get creative and invent your own Galapagos-inspired animal. This program is for students in second to fifth grades.

The Page by Page Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. The club will discuss books about “Suffragettes” in March. New members are always welcome.

Thursday, March 30

Upcycle used books with “Bookcycle: Brooch Bouquet” at 6:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. This series of craft recycling programs will challenge participants to salvage old books by using them to create beautiful literary decorations. In March, they’ll fold pages to form a flower pin. Books and craft materials will be available. Call the Dickinson County Library at 906-774-1218 to register for this program.
