Geology club plans meeting in Florence

FLORENCE, Wis. –The Northwoods Geology Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the lower level of the Florence Natural Resources Center.

Coffee and snacks will be available throughout the evening, along with door prizes drawn at the conclusion of the meeting. New members of all ages are welcome to attend.

Metal detecting season will soon begin, and everyone is asked to bring their metal detector to practice and learn more on locating treasures more accurately. They will also have a rock exchange going on during the meeting.

The club’s specimen display cases are located in the upper level of the Florence Natural Resources Center. They can be viewed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and, during the summer months, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. There are many other interesting exhibits to view at the Resource Center along with their mineral displays.

The horizontal display case and specimens were donated by Walter Tuchowski and family in memory of Walter’s brother, John Tuchowski, who was an Iron County, Michigan miner and an avid rock and mineral collector. The vertical display case holds specimens donated or on loan from past and present club members.

The selections may change from time to time. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and check it out periodically, note d Suzan Ballo, a club spokesperson.
