IMHS class of ‘42 celebrates 75th reunion

IRON MOUNTAIN — Eleven classmates from the Iron Mountain High School class of 1942, along with their guests, gathered together for a special reunion luncheon June 16 at Maple Creek in Iron Mountain to celebrate their 75 year graduation.

A welcome was given by Betty Simon, with an update on classmates who contacted but unable to attend.

In rememberance a “Moment of Silence was offered for 16 classmates who have passed away since the last reunion held in 2012. They include Alice McConaughy Hartbarger, 2013; Betty Lundin Sandlin, 2013; Marcheta Pearson Steebs, 2013; Eugene Groleau, 2013; Lawrence Formenti, 2013; Don Chandler, 2014; Frances Senger Bertoldi, 2014; Betty Berdinner Weber, 2014; Joyce Troyan Nowack, 2015; Vi Tavonati Balducci, 2015; Betty LaRoux Domengent, 2015; William Cayo, 2015; Ben Swanson, 2015; Lizbeth Crowell Werner Lieberman, 2015; Vivian Makoutz Wood, 2016; and Lorraine Piatti Zaidel, 2016.

Lorraine Marlow named the individuals, which now total 141 deceased members.

After reminising and renewing friendships, the group has planned another get-together in the near future.

This class was one of the largest graduating at 183 classmates not including 20 more who left school to enlist in the military in World War II and for other reasons.

The class motto was “I was born an American, I will live an American and will die an American.”
