Author to speak at Norway Museum on railway book

NORWAY — Floyd Schmidt of Eagle River, Wis., author of “The Wisconsin & Michigan Railway,” will speak at 2 and 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jake Menghini Museum in Norway.

Schmidt will give a PowerPoint program, showing the pictures he has gathered in his travels and will have much information and tales to tell about the railway.

The railroad ran from Peshtigo Harbor, Wis., to Iron Mountain. It went into service in 1895 and was abandoned in 1938.

Schmidt, and his wife, Bobbie, spent many hours at the Norway museum in the genealogy room, looking at photos and the articles.

This was just one of many places they visited to compile their book.

Jim Stanek, one of the museum’s board members, and Floyd have struck up a friendship over the years.

“Stanek seemed to be here giving tours many times when Floyd came to do research for the book,” said museum director, Cris Hamlin.

His 214-page book, which will be offered for sale at the presentation, has pictures, memorabilia and articles that will spur many memories about the region and era.

Donations to the museum are welcome for admission.
