Unnamed disciples — Luke 8:1-3

KINGSFORD – Have you noticed, there seems to be more commercials than ever in our TV programs. Like most people, I push the mute button to at least avoid the noise! Another thing I don’t bother to look at are the credits that run after a program. Yet, if it weren’t for the people whose names roll across the screen, we wouldn’t have the program.

When we read the scriptures, we find names given of people, both men and woman, who were involved in helping Jesus. Also, there are many examples of people whose names are not given. In Luke’s Gospel, we are told of “Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna and many other women who helped with their resources.”

Sometimes the unnamed people do the most important work. In the parish and in many other organizations it is the behind-the scenes people who make so many good things happen. For them, we are most grateful.

We pray that the Lord will help us realize that not everyone, including ourselves, can work center stage and in the spotlight.

God bless.
