Storytime Wednesday at the library

Preschoolers enjoy storytime at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Music and Rhyme Wiggle Time takes place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the library.

Monday

Color your stress away with Relaxing Rainbows at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Adults are invited for an hour of quiet stress relief through the meditative relaxation of coloring. Coloring sheets, pens and other materials will be provided. This program is open to adults only.

Tuesday

Parents with babies are invited to Baby Lit at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. It’s never too early to introduce your child to an environment that promotes imagination, learning, and fun. Read, sing and play along with babies up to age 2 and learn about early literacy practices you can engage in at home. 

Wednesday

Music and Rhyme Wiggle Time at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library. These storytimes will engage toddlers ages 2 and 3 in playing and learning to foster a lifelong love of reading.

 A Novel Bunch Book Club meets at 2 p.m. at the Solomonson Branch in Norway. The Novel Bunch book selection is chosen at the meeting each month for the upcoming month: attend the program to cast your vote. The selection, “Beautiful Mystery” by Louise Penny, is advertised on the website, www.dcl-lib.org/norwaybookclub, where you can also find reading guides and past selections. New members are always welcome.

Adults are invited to stay after the Novel Bunch Book Club’s meeting for Holiday Highlights at 3 p.m. Local musicians Crystal Hogan and Dawn Kranz will play favorites from a catalog of holiday songs and carols. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Dickinson County Library.

Thursday

Rising Readers at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. These storytimes will engage preschoolers in play and learning experiences that will get them excited about reading.

Friday

Nordic Readers at 10:30 a.m. at the North Dickinson Branch in Felch. Introduce your child to an environment that promotes imagination, learning, and fun through stories, songs, and rhymes. All preschool children are welcome at this storytime.

It’s a joyful season in Downtown Iron Mountain, and the Dickinson County Library will host a Holiday Highlights concert from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. featuring the Kingsford High School Jazz Band.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Author and meteorologist Karl Bohnak will be at a book signing featuring “Sunburns to Snowstorms,” at 1 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Co-authors Bohnak and Jack Deo compiled “Sunburns to Snowstorms” by combining historical and recent photographs of Upper Peninsula weather with stories from Bohnak related to the events and locations depicted. The authors decided to write this book after putting together a slideshow presentation for the Marquette Regional History Center.  

Thursday, Dec. 21

Upcycle used books with Bookcycle: Offbeat Ornaments at 6:30 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

This series of craft recycling programs will challenge you to salvage old books by using their covers and pages to create literary decorations. This month, they’ll decorate for the holidays. Books and craft materials will be available. Call the Dickinson County Library at 906-774-1218 to register for this program.

Sunday, Dec. 24

The Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain will be closed and remain closed Monday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, Dec. 26. The library also will be closed Sunday, Dec. 31, and remain closed Monday, Jan. 1. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The Solomonson Branch in Norway and North Dickinson Branch in Felch will be closed Monday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, Dec. 26. They also will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, with regular hours resuming Tuesday, Jan. 2. 

Wednesday, Dec. 27

 Family Games Nights, 6 p.m. at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain. Kids, teens, and families are invited to drop in any time during the program to play a variety of board and card games, or bring your own.
