Dickinson County Community Theatre announces cast of ‘Rent’
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson Country Community Theatre has announced the cast for the musical “Rent,” a rock opera by Jonathan Larson loosely based on the opera “La Boheme.”
“Rent” is set in the East Village of New York City in the late 1980s and follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends. The group’s dreams, emotions and struggles are portrayed in song as they deal with love, friendship, sexuality, drug addiction, and finding a voice under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.
“Rent” has won critical acclaim and numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize and the Tony for Best Musical and Best Original Score. The show enjoyed a 12-year run on Broadway and has been performed in more than 40 countries.
The cast includes William Reichle as Roger; Charlie Makowski as Mark; Kris Condray as Benny; Kaytie Everett as Mimi; Alec Vanhorn as Collins; Aidan Pietila as Angel; Carrie Morency as Joanne; and Thea Fradette as Maureen. Rounding out the cast in supporting roles are Ashlee Kranz, Emilie Rake, Michele Kellrooney, Anna Anderson, Stephanie M. Gauthier, Alexis Stacilauskas, Delany Harris, Fred Jump, Cassandra Allord and Laura Johnson.
Leading the production team is director Sophie Sam, who has acted in and directed several DCCT projects, including co-directing “Annie” last May. Musical director Lucas Wickstrom is an accomplished musician who has performed in cities around the country. Producer Amber Schiltz has been a favorite actor in several recent DCCT productions and has experience working behind the scenes as well.
Rent will be performed at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 through 27 and Feb. 1 through 3 at the Braumart Theatre in Iron Mountain. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the Dickinson County Community Theatre website, at the Braumart box office and at select businesses in Dickinson County.

There will be a special concert previewing the show at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Braumart Theatre, featuring Broadway actor Tony Vincent, best known for roles in “Rent,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “American Idiot” and “We Will Rock You,” as well as competing on the second season of “The Voice.” Tickets are by donation, with a suggested amount of $5.
