Daily Meditations: The world is a prisoner of sin

“But the scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.”

–Galatians 3:22

Sin is a problem for every person in the world. Sin is the demonstration of a sinful heart. We are powerless against sin and will always be defeated by sin if we rely on our own strength. Sin has captured us. We prefer to do our will, go our way and be our own boss. We rebel against God, his will, ways, purpose, plan and provision. We claim that we have done it all ourselves with no thanks to God and no recognition of his help, strength, gifts and provision.

God has given us a promise in Jesus. We are promised forgiveness, life eternal, reconciliation, resurrection and restoration. God has claimed us as his own child and adopted us as a member of his own family. Jesus has accomplished all of this through His death on the cross in our place for our sin and his resurrection from the dead. This is our salvation offered freely in love and grace, which is received in faith in Jesus.

Jesus has offered us relationship with his Father through faith in Jesus his son. Will we receive Jesus in faith? Will we live in the relationship with Jesus that He has established for us? Let’s spend time in his word and in prayer each day. Let’s believe in Jesus and receive what is offered to us through faith in Jesus today.
