Names in The News: Winkowitsch receives award from Berea College

IRON MOUNTAIN — Sophia Winkowitsch of Felch has been awarded the Kathleen S. and Frederick C. Crawford Award for Excellence in Conservation during the Spring 2018 award season.

In 2018, Berea College presented 176 students with more than $242,000 in academic awards. To be eligible to receive an academic award, a student must meet specific qualifications and be selected by faculty-led committees.

Berea College offers bachelor’s degrees in 34 majors, including arts and sciences and select professional programs, as well as independent majors designed by students to mirror approved majors at other colleges, Berea College awards four-year tuition scholarships to all its students, who because of financial circumstances cannot otherwise afford a residential, liberal arts education.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has named its students receiving academic honors for the spring 2018 semester.

Students who earn a 4.0 grade-point average, which represents all “A” grades, receive highest honors. High honors go to those earning 3.99 to 3.75 grade-point averages. Honors are given to students earning 3.74 to 3.50 grade-point averages.

All were full-time undergraduate students in the spring term, earning 12 or more credits of graded coursework.

Local students on the list include:

Iron River — Konnor Mikala Tousignant, semester high honors

Kingsford — Breanna Rae Nelson, semester highest honors; Courtney Marie Rietveld, semester high honors; Janay Katherine Walters, semester high honors;

Niagara, Wis. — Alyssa Marie Plemel, semester highest honors; Destiny Denae Schintgen, semester highest honors; Thomas Joseph Sielaff, semester high honors.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point honored more than 2,260 undergraduate students for attaining high grade-point averages during the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year.

Full-time undergraduate students who earned highest honors had grade points of 3.90 to 4.0 (4.0 equals all A’s); high honors had grade-point averages from 3.75 to 3.89; honors had grade point averages from 3.50 to 3.74

Students who received honors include:

Crystal Falls — Wyatt Cross, honors;

Iron Mountain — Jovanna Erickson, highest honors;

Kingsford — Justin LaVarnway, honors; Brett Swanson, honors;

Niagara, Wis. — Scott Strasser, highest honors; Kelsey Weecks, high honors.

Bellin College has named its students who made the spring 2018 dean’s list.

The dean’s list is composed of students who earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better in Bellin College courses, are in good disciplinary standing, and carry at least six credits.

Local students include;

Norway — Alexis Kallenbach, high honors;

Wilson — Brianna Jorasz, honors;

Iron Mountain — Reid Berndt, honors.

Bellin College offers a bachelor of science in nursing, bachelor of science in radiologic sciences, bachelor of science in diagnostic medical sonography and master of science in nursing degrees.
