Back to School Carnival on Friday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Gathering student supplies can be fun and easy as First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain again will host a Back to School Backpack Carnival from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 125 E. H St. in Iron Mountain.

Kids will receive basic school supplies by playing simple carnival games and successfully dunking the new youth pastor in the dunk tank.

The dunk tank is always a highlight of the event, said Steve Wentzel, the churchs new youth pastor from California who has arrived just in time for this event. He even has a few new ideas to make the event even more enjoyable.

The carnival is a free community event designed to send all kids home with back-to-school supplies, including a new backpack for each child.

All students will be winners, and will go back to school in style without any financial strain on families to shop for school supplies.

The evening includes a cookout as well, with the whole family welcome to participate.

The event is made possible each year by generous donations and many volunteers from the church, along with the junior and senior high youth groups.

A winner will be drawn from participants to receive a limo ride to school on the first day back this fall, complete with as many friends or family as the winner chooses to share the ride.

In case of inclement weather, the carnival will be moved indoors.
