Florence Historic Building Guided Walk on Saturday

FLORENCE, Wis. –Those who missed the recent Florence Historic Building Guided Walk will have another chance to participate at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Walk leader Karen Wertanen said the leisurely stroll will begin at the Florence County Museum on U.S. 2 between Florence and Central avenues.

A refreshment break and rest stop will take place at the Encore on Central midway through the walk, which is a little more than a mile.

There is no charge for the walk; however, the Historical Society always appreciates donations. In case of rain, it will be postponed to the same time Aug. 18.

The walk features homes and businesses that are listed, with photos, in the “Historical Florence Walking Tour” guidebook developed by the Florence High School geography class with the guidance of their teacher, Pam Smith.

The booklet will be available for $5 the day of the walk and also at the museum during open hours from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Also available from historical society members and during museum hours are their annual fundraiser drawing tickets.

Prizes this year include a queen-size quilt made by Joan Spears and long-arm quilted by Jackie Lehto; a quilt rack made Mike Nowak; an Amish-style braided rug made by Chris Trudell; a cedar hanging basket made by Matt Dagostino; and a basket filled with a hooded sweatshirt, the book “Heritage of Iron and Timber” and a certificate for the Tiderman Antique Shop.

The drawing is set for Sept. 1.
