Charity wine tasting event Nov. 8 in Marquette

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center and Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan will host a wine tasting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at the History Center at 145 W. Spring St. in Marquette.

Tickets are $35 and available now. This is a collaborative fundraiser to support literacy and local history.

They will have raffles for prizes from local businesses and offer the chance to bid on a copy of Fred Rydholm’s “Superior Heartland,” out of print and increasingly difficult to find.

Everyday Wines will provide expertise and a wine selection to sample. The wines will reflect the uncommon bonds Marquette County local history has to the wider world.

Local history authors that include Tyler Tichelaar and Sonny Longtine will read excerpts from their books. Members of the audience can buy signed books and discuss local history research and the art of writing with authors in a relaxed setting.

Actor Jessica “Red” Bays will do a dramatic reading of an entertaining historical piece from the J. M. Longyear Library.

Commemorative tasting glasses are available while supplies last, and all ticketholders can enter a drawing for a framed historical image.

For more information, call 906-226-3571, go to 145 W. Spring St. or go online to www.marquettehistory.org.
