IRON MOUNTAIN — The employees of First National Bank & Trust chose the Salvation Army Coats for Kids program as the recipient of their latest fundraising efforts.

More than two dozen winter coats and coat/snowpants sets were donated to help area families, along with hats, scarves and gloves.

The Salvation Army coordinates with other local non-profit food pantries to clothe and feed more than 120 “extreme need” families in the area each year, said Tara Blagec, director of the local office.

Applications for assistance can be picked up at the Salvation Army office at 145 Roseland in Kingsford and are being accepted through Dec. 14 for Christmas.

The Salvation Army also has an “Angel Tree,” a personalized holiday assistance program in which an individual or group sponsor purchases new clothing and toys for a deserving child in need.

Donors who want to adopt a person or family for Christmas can contact the Salvation Army office at 906-779-5717.

The Salvation Army also accepts non-perishable food donations that can be dropped off at its office.

For more information on the Salvation Army or its assistance programs, stop in the office from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays or call Blagec at 906-779-5717.
