Husing retires after 22 years of federal service

IRON MOUNTAIN After 22 years of federal service, Jim Husing recently retired from the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center.

Husing was born and raised in Minneapolis, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1970. He subsequently graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Augsburg College in 1974, a second bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University in 1980 and in 1994 received a master’s degree in health services administration from the College of St. Francis.

Husing stared his career at the Brecksville VA in Cleveland, Ohio in 1974. After stops at the VA medical centers in Minneapolis and Denver, Husing came to the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center in 1989. He left the Iron Mountain VA in 1993 as the personnel officer to assume the duties of the human resources manager at the Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) in 1993.

Husing retired from DCHS in 2011 for one weekend before being rehired back at the VA. He has served as a human resources labor relations specialist for the past three years.

Baseball has always been an important part of Husing ‘s life. He has coached area baseball at all age levels from Little League through Legion including the 1994 Little League State Champions. He is a very active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, singing on the Praise and Worship team for the past 15 years and serving as council president for two years.

Husing is married to Tracy and they have three children, Erin, Adam (Kathryn) and Jacob (Brenda). They also have eight grandchildren: Rediet, Kolbe, Jacinta, Martin, Thomas, Augustin, Adelaide and Amelia.

Retirement plans for Husing include grandparenting, golf, visiting major league ballparks and presidential libraries, and enjoying life on the lake.
