School donation program in October at Downtown Sew & Vac

IRON MOUNTAIN – Downtown Sew & Vac of Iron Mountain is offering a donation program for local schools. During October, they will donate 10 percent of the selling price of any machine to the school of choice of the customer.

“This is something I’ve been thinking about for some time and actually it’s not really my idea. Some schools offer a voucher type of program that I participate in. With those you have to go to the school, get a voucher and bring it to the store. This is just easier,” noted Rick Zolner, owner.

“I have no idea what it will amount to, but a little bit could help a little bit somewhere and October is one of our busiest months. With all the cutbacks and problems schools face, I kind of know what that’s like. Being a little mom and pop type store isn’t easy either. Things are pretty tough out there, but for one month I’m just going to do it and see what happens,” Zolner added.

He noted that when you think about it, in a way the customer is making the donation since that’s the way it will be handled.

The way the program will work is that any customers that buys a vacuum cleaner, air purifier or sewing machine will choose what school and what program or department they want the donation to go to.

The customer just fills out a form and states the name of the school, the program or department the donation goes to, and if they want their name included – if not, they will be anonymous.

The donation program excludes commercial accounts and is for the month of October only.

With this program, the donation will be made to any school chosen by the customer in either Michigan or Wisconsin.
