Lake Shore shows support for U.P. Honor Flight with donation
KINGSFORD — Lake Shore Systems Inc. has donated $1,500 to the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight in support of the nation’s veterans, their service, and their sacrifices, a spokesman said.
The Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that relies on donations from local companies to support their mission to transport veterans to Washington D.C. The tour visits nine Monuments and memorials in the nation’s capitol.
“Without support, they would not be able to pay back the men and women that served our country. The one-time trip is completely free for the veterans. Veterans that have served during wartime or peacetime are encouraged to participate. There is no overseas or deployment requirements to take the trip,” Lake Shore Systems officials added.
Since 2011, the Honor Flight has successfully conducted 11 missions supporting 846 former service men and women from the Upper Peninsula to visit Washington D.C. There are currently 152 veterans on the waiting list.
In addition, the Honor Flight is always looking for people to serve as agent guardians to travel with the veteran.
