IRON MOUNTAIN — A new office area designed to provide shared space to accommodate “coworking” has opened in downtown Iron Mountain.

CWRK — pronounced cowork — Collective is housed above the Savage Mane Salon & Day Spa at 209 E. Hughitt St.

The office area aims “to build a community of professionals and foster an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration, no matter your area of expertise or industry,” CWRK Collective founder Elsa Faust Pontbriand said.

The concept of coworking is a shared work environment where individuals who are self-employed or work for different companies can share equipment, ideas and knowledge.

“Having worked from home for the past seven years, I have been wanting to open a coworking space for some time,” Pontbriand said. “The space became available in early summer and years of planning fell into place.”

The space is furnished, has an internet connection, a copy machine and kitchen area. Pontbriand also plans to offer private offices, a larger meeting room and hotspot desks at daily, weekly or monthly rates.

“It’s a quieter space than (meeting in) the coffee shop,” she said.

The coworking space also provides people in a variety of industries the opportunity to interact.

“The business aims to bring inspiration, leadership and innovation to our community by serving as a shared workspace for entrepreneurs, freelance professionals, and professionals who work from home or travel to our community that have a vested interest in economic development in our community,” Pontbriand said.
