MIKE DAGENAIS

ESCANABA — Mike Dagenais has been recognized as the Bay College Distinguished Alumnus for 2018 by the college’s Alumni Association.

A Delta County native, Dagenais graduated from Escanaba High School in 1978 and earned an associate in arts degree from Bay College in 1981.

Dagenais has worked nearly 44 years at Elmer’s County Market, an iconic grocery store in Escanaba started by his grandfather Elmer. Dagenais now is president and dairy manager, and is responsible for day-to-day operations and public relations.

He and his siblings, Pat and Barb, represent the third generation of Dagenais at Elmer’s County Market.

Dagenais also is involved in numerous community organizations, including the YMCA, Escanaba Blue Line Club and the Eskymo Fan Club. He was named the 2012 Escanaba Fan of the Year.

Dagenais lives in Escanaba with his wife, Lisa. His children, Jared and Jalyn, both attended Bay College and now represent the fourth generation of the family at Elmer’s County Market.

Established in 1999, the Distinguished Alumni award is recognized at the annual awards dinner in April and graduation in May. They also are invited to be a keynote speaker at commencement the next year.
