IM-based air service to start Lansing same-day shuttle

IRON MOUNTAIN — Northern Airways, a division of Kubick Aviation Services, plans to offer a same-day air service shuttle from the Upper Peninsula to Lansing beginning in September.

Northern Airways developed the air shuttle after business and industry professionals indicated a strong need in a recent survey.

“We saw a gap and we addressed it,” said Chad Kubick, president of Kubick Aviation Services. “Our vision for the air shuttle is to get customers to Lansing for a day of business, and then get them home the same day. No one else is providing this.”

Those now traveling to Lansing from the Upper Peninsula have two options: a roughly six-hour trip by road or a commercial airlines flight.

“In both scenarios, there is a large consideration of time, money and lost productivity,” Kevin Leitz, Northern Airways’ business development executive. “Driving and/or flying commercially to and from Lansing are two-day ventures requiring overnight stays, meals and there is very limited time to conduct business. Alternatively, our shuttle optimizes time allowing a traveler to do more of what the trip was intended to accomplish — business.”

The Northern Airways Lansing shuttle will cost $900 per seat. For the shuttle’s launch in September, Northern Airways is committing to one round-trip flight every other week. The flight will leave Kingsford’s Ford Airport, with a pick up at Marquette’s Sawyer International Airport. The flight will provides customers with six-plus hours to conduct business in Lansing, then return them to the Upper Peninsula by that evening.

“We’re excited to bring a solution to an identified need in our region,” Kubick said. “With greater demand from our customers, we’ll certainly grow the frequency of shuttle flights.”
