Operation Action UP annual meeting Thursday

MARQUETTE — Operation Action U.P. will have its annual meeting starting at 8 a.m. Eastern time Thursday in the Don H. Bottum University Center Great Lakes Rooms on the Northern Michigan University campus, 1401 Presque Isle Ave. in Marquette.

The meeting will open with registration and networking.

Those attending will hear from Brian Calley, who will share his experiences as the recent Michigan lieutenant governor, and Tom Casperson, formerly state senator for the region, who will reflect on his service in the legislature.

The four Upper Peninsula businesses who will receive OAUP’s 2018 Awards of Excellence are: L.E. Jones Company, Lake Shore Systems Inc., Karl’s Cuisine and Keweenaw Brewing Company. The award recipients will provide an overview of their business and their successes.

The meeting also will feature a presentation on “Tax Cuts Work” from Howard Hall, director at Hammond Institute for Free Enterprise and professor of economics at the Plaster School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

Jason Geer from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Maggie Sheely from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Sarah Hubbard from Acuitas will have a panel discussion on “Why Policy Matters.”
