Stoneridge Furniture brings old barn wood back to life as furniture

By NIKKI YOUNK

Staff Writer

NORWAY – Old, broken down barns may be eyesores to some, but to Mary Ann Dierkens and Charles Clark of Stoneridge Furniture in Norway, they are a source of inspiration.

Dierkens and Clark reclaim wood from old Upper Peninsula barns and buildings and use it to create one-of-a-kind furniture. They do all the work themselves, from dismantling the buildings to removing nails from the wood to building and finishing the pieces. While Clark is in charge of crafting the furniture, Dierkens does all of the finishing touches.

“I just feel its a really unique way to keep the wood and display it,” said Dierkens. “No two pieces will ever be alike.”

Stoneridge Furniture began operating about two and a half years ago.

Dierkens is no stranger to business ownership, as she has also been running the Ed’s Market convenience store and gas station on U.S. 2 in Norway for many years. After discontinuing the video rental section of Ed’s Market, Dierkens had a ready-made space for her and Clark to display their work.

Customers are welcome to stop by the store and look over the various chairs, tables, benches, and shelves available for sale. Dierkens and Clark will also make specialty pieces for any interested customer.

In addition, anyone who has an old barn or building on their property they would like taken down is encouraged to contact Dierkens and Clark.
