Braumart to host Dickinson Community Theatre concert

50th anniversary event features songs from musicals

IRON MOUNTAIN — A concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Dickinson County Community Theatre will take place Saturday at the Braumart Theatre in Iron Mountain.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at both Greenway Books and the door. The concert is a show comprised of songs from a variety of musicals done in a revue setting.

“It’s going to feature many individuals from all across our timeline and even folks who have never worked with us before,” said David Sam II of Iron Mountain, DCCT president.

Cast members include Abby Miller, Alene Blomquist, Alex Herman, Alisha Mondloch, Anna Anderson, Carrie Morency, Christine Burns, Deborah Wilton, Delany Harris, Eliisa Gladwell, Fred Jump, Jennifer Alwine, Jessica Lorenz-Weecks, John Estes, Jonathan Ringel, Kayla Myers, Laura Johnson, Mark Demers, Patricia Staller, Rachel Harris, Randy Lorenz, Robert Lundholm, Sammie Schultz, Sarah Peterson, Teddy Izzo and David Sam II.

“We’ll even be featuring a song from one of DCCT’s founding members, Thomas Martin, which you won’t want to miss,” Sam said. “Michael Powell will be our MC for the evening.”

The theater group started in 1967 with the first production, “Harvey,” happening at Kingsford High School in 1968. Some of the group’s other productions include “The Sound Of Music”, “Arsenic & Old Lace”, “Oliver! The Musical,” “Fiddler On The Roof,” “Anne Of Green Gables,” “Guys & Dolls,” “Frankenstein,” “12 Angry Men,” “South Pacific,” “Damn Yankees,” “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “Oklahoma!” and “A Christmas Carol.”

Saturday’s show will feature songs from many of the musicals above along with material from “Les Miserables,”  “Into The Woods,” “A Chorus Line” and “Phantom Of The Opera,” along with other surprises.

“With 19 songs from 17 musicals, there is something for everyone here,” Sam said. “We’ll also be doing a silent auction to benefit DCCT’s future productions, and serving hors d’oeuvres and drinks.”

The food is free with admission, and all drinks purchased benefit Friends of the Braumart.

The group will show some videos and also have a few relics from DCCT’s past on display.

“Additionally, I am pleased to say that we’ll be announcing our next wave of shows at the concert,” Sam said. “We’ve got our previously announced show ‘Annie’ coming in the spring, but if you want to be the first to hear what’s coming in fall 2017 or spring 2018, you’ll need to be at the concert.

“Thank you for supporting us over the last 50 years,” Sam continued. “We truly appreciate everyone that has ever came to see a show, helped paint a set over an afternoon, passed out tickets, directed, acted, or was involved in any of the near endless things that go on with a production. With your continued support we truly hope to be able to continue for another 50 years.”
