Fatal crash in Iron County
UPDATE:
CRYSTAL FALLS — One person is dead and three were taken to the hospital after their sports utility vehicle crashed into an Iron County Road Commission grader truck Wednesday morning in Iron River Township.
The grader had been clearing the shoulder of U.S. 2 near Wild River Road about 7:54 a.m. when the SUV rear-ended it, Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano said.
Ambulances took the three injured people to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River, and a fourth was pronounced dead at the accident site, Valesano said. The grader driver had minor injuries and sought his own treatment, he added.
Valesano did not release any names or other identifying information of those involved, as the crash remains under investigation.
U.S. 2 in the area of the accident was closed to traffic for about seven hours Wednesday.
Iron County Central Dispatch, Michigan State Police accident investigators, Aspirus EMS, West Iron County firefighters, Iron County Search and Rescue and the Iron River Police Department assisted Iron County deputies.

IRON RIVER — Emergency crews still were working this morning at what was confirmed to be a fatal crash between a vehicle and grader truck west of Iron River.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department had little other information available at press time about the crash on U.S. 2 near Wild River Road.
Emergency responders were called to the site about 7:50 a.m. today. Initial police scanner reports indicated there was entrapment in the accident.
Traffic was detoured off the highway to side roads, witnesses said.
