Woman arrested in Beecher standoff

TOWN OF BEECHER, Wis. — A 52-year-old woman is in custody after surrendering during what earlier was described as an armed standoff at a town of Beecher residence, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department said.

The sheriff’s department received a call about 12:16 p.m. Wednesday that shots had been fired from the home on Smeester School Road. Crisis counselors were able to resolve the standoff without injuries, according to the sheriff’s department.

The woman’s name was withheld pending further investigation. Few other details were released, and the sheriff’s office declined to provide additional information this morning.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Marinette Police Department, Peshtigo Police Department, Pembine Rescue, Beacon Ambulance and Brown County/Green Bay Police Department and its Bearcat armored vehicle.
