North Dickinson names top students

Austin Alexa is valedictorian, Cody Slagle takes salutatorian honors

FELCH — North Dickinson High School has announced its top two students from the 2017 graduating class — the valedictorian and salutatorian.

Austin Alexa, with a grade point average of 3.992, is this year’s valedictorian and Cody Slagle is the salutatorian with a grade point average of 3.963.

Austin is the son of Steve and Chastity Alexa of Sagola.

Throughout his high school career, he participated in football and track. Alexa was also a member of the National Honor Society, attended leadership conferences, and is the president of his class.

He was on the All A honor roll for eight consecutive semesters, and also received the Physics Awards, Senior English Award and World History Award.

Outside of school, Alexa is active in a youth group.

He has been accepted to Michigan Technological University and plans to study civil engineering.

Cody is the son of Jason and Jennifer Slagle of Felch.

He participated in football, basketball and track. Slagle was also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, VEX Robotics Club, and is secretary of his class.

Slagle has been recognized with an Air Force Math and Science Award, the Senior English Award, and was the pre-engineering/robotics student of the semester.

Outside of school, he is active in his youth group.

Slagle has been accepted to Michigan Technological University and will study general engineering.
