Purple Heart monument recovered
UPDATE:
IRON MOUNTAIN — The Purple Heart monument reported stolen from the Upper Peninsula Veterans Memorial has been recovered, but it is damaged, state police said Friday morning.
Troopers believe the suspects returned to the area of the crime sometime Thursday evening and put the monument on the side of the road.
A “Good Samaritan” driving in the area spotted the monument and notified authorities,troopers said.
Troopers continue to investigate and are processing evidence from the scene.

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post is investigating the theft of a Purple Heart monument from the Upper Peninsula Veterans Memorial on Pine Mountain in Breitung Township.
The monument, estimated at two feet tall and 80 pounds, was taken sometime between Tuesday evening and Thursday afternoon, troopers said.
