Senior scholars named at Norway High School

NORWAY — Norway High School officials have announced the senior scholars in the class of 2017.

Dane Lucas VanDenHeuvel, son of Shane VanDenHeuvel and Terra Brow of Norway, will attend the University of Michigan where he will study mechanical engineering.

While in high school VanDenHeuvel participated in football, basketball and baseball.

Matthew John Peterson, son of Gary and Maria Peterson of Norway, will attend Michigan Technological University this fall. His field of study will be electrical engineering.

While in high school, Peterson was active in Hi-Q and High School Bowl. He’s a member of National Honor Society and was on Norway’s varsity football team.

Britta Alma-Ruth Grayvold, daughter of Brad and Dana Grayvold of Vulcan, plans to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering. Her field of study will be user experience and communication design.

While in high school, Grayvold was an active member of Student Council, prom committee, and Drama Club. She was also part of the MHSAA Sportsmanship Conference and Michigan Girls State and is a member of the National Honor Society. Grayvold also enjoyed being a teammate on the cross country, basketball and softball teams.

Kelly Jo Madigan, daughter of Robert and Mary Pat Madigan of Vulcan, will be majoring in actuarial science at Michigan State University this fall.

While in high school, Madigan was her freshmen class secretary and vice president for her sophomore, junior and senior years.

She participated in Student Council, Youth Advisory Committee, Key Club, Art Club, Drama Club, prom committee and 4-H Horse Club. She was also a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and the National Honor Society.

Cody Jacob Carlson, son of Jeff Carlson and Lisa Rock of Norway, will attend Bay de Noc Community College. During his high school career Carlson has been involved in baseball (all-district freshman and junior years) and football (all-conference honorable mention linebacker).

Kierstin Lee Seim, daughter of Paul and Teresa Seim of Norway, plans to study music therapy at Saint Mary of the Woods College. While in high school, Seim was an active member of band and chorus and also participated in track, Hi Q, Quiz Bowl, Drama Club, Yearbook and Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).

Jordan Marie Kraemer, daughter of Bret and Jamie Kraemer of Norway, will attend Bay de Noc Community College this fall pursuing a degree in accounting. She also has signed with Bay to be a part of their first colligate basketball program.

While in high school she participated in Student Council, prom committee and was class representative. Kraemer is also an award winning athlete receiving multiple awards in basketball, volleyball, softball and track during her high school career.

Kimberly Anne Glanville, daughter of Todd and Mary Glanville, plans to attend Bay de Noc Community College. She will be entering the pre-medicine program. During high school, Glanville was a member of the cross country, softball, track, and swimming teams.

She was also a very active member of Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), Key Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Student Council, HOSA, Hi-Q, Quiz Bowl, Grant Commission Committee, Art Club, Spanish Club, Drama Club and is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Sydney Jo Smaniotti, daughter of Rick Smaniotti and Shannon Neuens of Norway will attend Western Michigan University in the fall. Her field of study will be nursing.

While in high school, Smaniotti was in Youth Advisory Committee, Key Club, Spanish Club, Drama Club and Student Council. She was also class president her freshman, sophomore and junior years. She also participated in softball and cheer.

Justin James Bal, son of Jim and Michelle Bal of Norway, will attend Bay de Noc Community College this fall and plans on majoring in sports medicine. Bal is a member of the National Honor Society.

He was team captain of the basketball team and awarded all-conference and all-U.P. He was also football team captain for two years being awarded all-conference tight end and all-U.P. defensive end. He was also an all-district player in baseball.
