Four new teachers hired at Breitung Township Schools

KINGSFORD — Four new teachers have been hired by the Breitung Township Schools Board for the 2017-18 school year.

The new faces include Megan Bottesi, who will be teaching English at Kingsford High School; Jenette Gunville, a new teacher at Woodland Elementary School; Julie Stenfors, who will be teaching art at Woodland Elementary and Kingsford Middle School; and Heather (Sherwood) LaVarnway, a new science teacher at KHS.

Bottesi graduated from Niagara High School in 2006 and went on to receive a degree in secondary education English and social studies from Northern Michigan University. She has spent the past six years teaching English at Forest Park Schools.

She and her husband, Bryan, have a son, Owen, who was born in October.

Bottesi will teach sophomore and senior English at KHS in the fall.

Gunville was born and raised in Florence, Wis. and attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she majored in elementary education with a health minor. She went on to receive her master’s degree in education with a specialization in brain development in early adolescents from Cardinal Stritch University.

Gunville has taught in the Port Washington-Saukville School District for eight years as a kindergarten and second grade teacher as well as freshman and JV soccer coach and middle school cross country coach.

She recently worked for the University of Wisconsin-Extension. She and her husband, Ryan live in Kingsford with their three children, Lexi, Lyric and Lincoln.

LaVarnway is a graduate of Kingsford High School and Northern Michigan University, earning a degree in clinical lab science. She became certified as a medical technologist and furthered her education at Northland University in Ashland, Wis. While there, she earned a bachelor of science degree in broad field science teaching.

LaVarnway is a national board certified teacher with 14 years experience teaching a variety of science courses at the middle and high school level.

She and her husband, Mike, live in Kingsford with their four children Justin, Ethan, Nolan and Allie.

Stenfors graduated from Marian College in Fond du Lac, Wis. with a bachelor of arts degree in art education, Rio Salado College in Tempe, Ariz. with a degree in elementary education and Northern Michigan University with a master’s degree in school administration.

Stenfors taught in Wisconsin for five years before joining the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools in 1999. She has taught K-12 art, middle school social studies, early kindergarten and K-4 computers. She will be a K-5 art teacher at Woodland.
