Crash kills man in Delta County

GARDEN CORNERS — A Rapid River man died after his vehicle was hit by a semi-trailer truck Monday afternoon in Garden Corners in Delta County.

According to Michigan State Police from the Gladstone post and the Manistique detachment, which continue to investigate the crash, 61-year-old Donald Kuhr was attempting to turn west on U.S. 2 when he pulled his car out of the parking lot at Foxy’s Den Convenience Store and was struck by an eastbound semi about 4:51 p.m. Monday.

Kuhr was extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life, then transported by Rampart Ambulance to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead, according to a news release.

The semi driver was treated at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and released. His name was not provided.

A section of U.S. 2, between Federal Highway 13 and County Road 442, was closed for more than three hours due to the accident.
