MARQUETTE — The victim of the fatal rollover ATV crash that occurred north of the Noquemanon Trail head near Forrestville Road in Marquette Township has been identified.

Gregory James LaBonte, 56, of Negaunee, was the driver of the ATV, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office was called to the rollover accident about 12:12 p.m. Saturday after a lone mountain bike rider found LaBonte with the four-wheeler on top of him.

Authorities believe LaBonte was negotiating a rock barrier on a two-track trail when the ATV overturned and landed on top of him.

LaBonte was pronounced dead at the accident site. He was taken to UP Health System-Marquette.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Marquette County Special Operations Unit and the Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department.
