Florence, Niagara school districts to hold annual meetings tonight

The Dickinson County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. today in the circuit courtroom of the courthouse.

The agenda includes the purchase and installation of disability door assists for the courthouse entrance and a closed session to discuss contract negotiations.

The Florence County Schools District Board will meet today at 5:15 p.m. in the middle/high school auditorium for a regular meeting.

New business includes the final approval of the 2017-18 budget and tax levy.

A closed session is planned to discuss the JV/varsity wrestling coach vacancy, JV boys basketball coach vacancy, evaluation of the director of building and grounds, specific teacher compensation and middle school/high school education pararprofessional.

The annual meeting of the board will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. A presentation and hearing on the budget will be held along with a resolution to adopt the tax levy.

Other business includes authorizing transportation, operating a school lunch program, providing textbooks and setting a date for the 2018 annual meeting.

The Breitung Township Board will meet tonight at 7 in the board room of the township offices, 4851 Menominee St. in Quinnesec.

New business includes a resolution to honor township attorney William Fahey, approval to attend the accounting seminar, approval of the water tank roof bid, Central Landfill Authority appointment, discussion of Medical Marijuana Facilities Licensing Act, and resolution to support Senate Bill 577 to designate a portion of U.S. 8 in the city of Norway as Medio J. Bacco Memorial Highway.

The regular meeting of the Niagara School District Board begins at 5:30 p.m. today in the learning materials center. The annual meeting will begin once the regular meeting has concluded.

Dale Blagec will address the board concerning high school baseball and softball.

New business includes the tax levy and budget adoption, interest proposal for investment account, NEOLA resolution with recommendation to post policies on school website, changes to the employee handbook, approval of youth options and alternative open enrollment.

During the annual meeting, a chairperson will be elected and Superintendent Nate Burklund will report on the balance sheet, Fund 80 levy and revenue and expenditures for last year, setting the salary for school board members, adopting the length of the school terms, and a presentation of the 2017-18 school budget.
