Community Christmas tree coming to Iron Mountain
IRON MOUNTAIN – The public is encouraged to line up on Stephenson Avenue on Thursday to help welcome the 20-foot community Christmas tree to its final destination.
The police escort begins at 3:30 p.m. at Edward’s Automotive and ends at the First National Bank & Trust downtown office plaza area. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the bank to invite everyone back for the official tree lighting ceremony and remind the public to bring a non-breakable ornament for the tree.
The community is invited to return for the official tree lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 15, at the First National Bank & Trust Co.’s outside plaza.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on that date, the Girl Scouts will be serving hot cider while the Kingsford High School and Community Chorus sing Christmas songs. Santa is scheduled to arrive on the fire truck at 5:15 p.m. and will join Mrs. Claus and their friends with the official tree lighting around 5:30 pm.
At 6 p.m. Santa and his friends will lead the walking parade to the downtown stage where he will greet children and sit for pictures. There will be more music, hot drinks and food vendors near the stage.
New this year will be the addition of tree ornaments. Organizers said that they really wanted to make this a true community tree so they are inviting and encouraging community members, businesses and organizations to decorate a non-breakable ornament to hang on the tree the night of the tree lighting ceremony.
Suggestions include ornaments with a business logo or organization name, family names or pictures, in memory of a loved one, or children’s drawing or crafts.
This community event is being brought to you by the Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority, Edwards Automotive, Bacco Construction and the First National Bank & Trust Co.
