Wind advisory issued for region
Dickinson and Iron counties are included in a wind advisory issued tonight through Tuesday morning by the National Weather Service office in Marquette.
In addition to Iron and Dickinson, the counties expected to be affected include Menominee, Delta, Marquette, Ontonagon, Baraga, Gogebic, southern Schoolcraft and southern Houghton.
The advisory extends from 10 p.m. Central time today through 11 a.m. Tuesday. Winds will be about 20 to 30 mph, with peak gusts of up to 50 mph, according to the NWS.
Keweenaw and northern Houghton counties are under a winter storm warning from 5 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Heavy snow, coupled with wind gusts as high as 50 to 60 mph, will create blizzard conditions, especially Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening, the NWS advised. The region could see 6 to 9 inches of snow from this storm.
