Florence County supports library legislation
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence County Board on Tuesday urged state legislators to support proposed bills that would make rural public libraries eligible for certain grant funding.
Assembly Bill 572 and Senate Bill 491 would allow these libraries to apply for Technology For Educational Achievement, or TEACH, grants normally awarded to schools. Grant money could be used to improve information technology infrastructure and train librarians in the use of educational technology, according to the bill language.
Florence County Library Director Stephanie Weber submitted a letter of support for the bills to the county board, which will forward her letter and its own support letter to state Rep. Rob Swearingen, R-Rhinelander, and state Sen. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst.
In other business, the board:
— Ratified a two-year contract with the Florence County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association that includes a 2 percent wage increase.
— Approved Florence Motor Sales’ bid of $25,600 to provide a truck for the Forestry and Parks Department. Seat covers, tax, title and plate fees cost extra.
