Parkinson’s class offered at Dickinson YMCA
IRON MOUNTAIN – A Parkinson’s cycling class at the Northern Lights YMCA is a free, ongoing program.
All participants must be referred by their doctor and pre-registration is required. All classes are taught and monitored by a certified Parkinson’s cycling instructor.
“Pedaling a bike may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Fast pedaling is not a cure for Parkinson’s but there is compelling evidence to show that it does lessen the symptoms and make a real difference in those folks who try it,” said Karen Pollock, YMCA wellness coordinator. “We know that fast-paced cycling is changing the lives of increasing numbers of participants who, before this, had no hope beyond medication and eventually surgery to slow the progression of the disease.”
Research has shown a 35 percent reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace.
For more information, contact Pollock at 906-774-4076 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon.
