IRON MOUNTAIN — One person was arrested after authorities found an active methamphetamine lab Wednesday in an apartment complex on U.S. 2 just north of Iron Mountain.

A detective lieutenant with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department was helping the Michigan Department of Corrections with a parole visit at one of the apartments at N3976 U.S. 2 about 2 p.m. when they discovered the lab in a closet, according to a press release issued Thursday by the sheriff’s department.

They obtained a search warrant to confirm the lab and then contacted the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team for disposal services.

Authorities arrested a man on a parole detainer and will submit a report to the Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office for additional charges, according to the release.

His name won’t be released until he is arraigned in Dickinson County District Court.

The sheriff’s department continues to investigate and may have additional suspects. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Det./Lt. Derek Dixon at 906-774-8008.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department condemned the apartment where the lab was found but allowed the other apartments to remain open at this time, sheriff’s office officials said.

The KIND Drug Team, Kingsford Public Safety Department and Breitung Township Fire Department also assisted deputies.
