Marquette man killed in crash
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Marquette man died early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash in Marquette Township, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.
Jacob Weslin was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Austin Mitchell, also 21, that at 4:50 a.m. Sunday left County Road 550 north of Sugar Loaf Mountain, struck a power pole and rolled into the ditch, troopers said.
Weslin was pronounced dead at the crash site. Mitchell, of Ishpeming, was treated at U.P. Health Systems Marquette and later released.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, troopers said. They were assisted at the crash site by Marquette City Police, Northern Michigan University Public Safety, Marquette Township Fire Department and UP Health Systems Marquette Emergency Medical Services.
