Pickleball could be added at park
KINGSFORD — The city plans to seek a $160,000 Michigan DNR Passport Grant to replace the playground equipment at Lodal Park and install four pickleball courts on the west side of the tennis courts.
An informational meeting on the grant proposal has been set for March 19. The plan may be scaled back based on public input at the meeting, as the grant would require a 25 percent local match.
The application must be filed by April 1.
City Manager Tony Edlebeck said several people have suggested adding pickleball courts at the park. The sport is played with paddles and a small plastic ball with holes on a badminton-size court, according the USA Pickleball Association. It has gained popularity in recent years.
The city has been awarded a $4,000 Scrap Tire Grant, Edlebeck told the city council Monday. Several other Dickinson County communities also received grants, and they plan to coordinate with them for tire removal during spring clean-up.
The council also;
— Agreed to donate $100 to the Kingsford High School senior class to advertise for its planned non-alcoholic graduation party.
— Heard from a resident about complaints he received about his semi-trailer truck. They recommended he attend the next planning commission meeting March 26.
