Caring House receives Justice grant

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Caring House has received funding from a Wisconsin Department of Justice grant.

The grant gives Caring House the opportunity to provide services for victims of sexual assault directly in Florence County. The Outreach Office is located in the Florence County Courthouse.

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center released the follow statistics:

— Every 98 seconds someone in the United States is sexually assaulted

— 1 in 5 women have been raped

— 1 in 33 men have been raped

Unfortunately, Florence County is no stranger to these statistics. To eradicate sexual violence from our community we must address root cause. Community members can work together to end sexual violence by educating themselves and others on this horrific crime.

Learn how to be part of the solution by contacting Caring House at 906-774-1337 or toll free at 800-392-7839.

There will be candlelight vigil and appreciation ceremony hosted by Caring House on April 30 at 5 p.m. at Bay West College – Fornetti Hall. The event will afford you the opportunity to demonstrate your support for those impacted by sexual violence as well as acknowledging those who strive to pursue justice for victims.
