Earth Day event in Iron River

IRON RIVER — The public is invited to attend the second annual Earth Day celebration sponsored by the West Iron District Library and the Iron County Rise-up Organization on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library.

Many events are planned for the celebration, among them hands-on activities and art projects for children and other earth-friendly crafts for everyone.

Those attending can meet a beekeeper, members of the Watershed Council and representatives from both an organic farm and the Northwoods Animal Shelter.

Several organic items will be available to purchase, such as maple syrup, eggs, honey, essential oils, trail mix, and many repurposed products.

Entertainment will be provided by various musicians during the four-hour long event.

At 11 a.m. high School students from West Iron County and Forest Park can enter the “Earth Day Poetry Slam” contest, where they can present original poetry to be judged on its environmental message, cleverness and passion. The poetry should be no longer than two minutes long and contain no profanity or personal attacks.

The Friends of the Library will sponsor a bake sale during the festivities.

For additional information, please call the library at 265-2831.
