Norway deals with sewer leak into White Creek

NORWAY — Norway city workers repaired a sewer line May 11 after they discovered it had leaked 10 to 50 gallons of raw sewage into White Creek just north of Holy Spirit School on Saginaw Street, according to a discharge report filed by the city.

There’s no health concern, City Manager Ray Anderson said, due to the low volume of the discharge and the fact it went into a creek with constant movement that eventually empties into the Menominee River.

The city complied with Michigan Department of Environmental Quality reporting requirements, and the MDEQ is aware of any and all corrective actions needed for the situation, Anderson added.

The repaired sewer line is an old main containing sewage from the school and Oak Crest Golf Course. Workers will soon replace the temporary patch on the line with a permanent fix, Anderson said.
