Marinette County has fifth traffic fatal of 2018

MARINETTE, Wis. — A man died early Saturday in Marinette County after his vehicle went off County Trunk P and struck a tree in the Town of Beaver, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

After a passerby reported the crash about 2:42 a.m., a deputy found the body of a man near the wreckage who had been ejected from the vehicle, Sheriff Jerome Sauve said in a release.

An investigation showed the sports utility vehicle had been westbound on County Trunk P when it went off the road east of U.S. 141, then across 141 and off County P west of 141 before hitting the tree.

Francisco Escobar, 35, who had been living in Pound, Wis., died from massive head and internal injuries, according to Marinette County Coroner George Smith. Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the accident, which remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

This was the fifth traffic fatality in Marinette County in 2018, Sauve said.

Also assisting at the crash were Wisconsin State Patrol, the Pound/Brazeau Fire Department and Coleman Rescue.
