Man injured in US 2 crash in Quinnesec

IRON MOUNTAIN — An Escanaba man’s confusion over detour lanes on U.S. 2 led to a near head-on crash but no life-threatening injuries Friday night near the intersection of Third Street in Quinnesec.

The 50-year-old Escanaba driver turned his Buick Century west from Third Street onto U.S. 2 about 9:45 p.m., but entered the eastbound lane into the path of a GMC pickup truck driven by a 51-year-old Norway man, deputies at the Dickinson County Sheriff Department said.

The Escanaba man was taken by Integrity Care EMS to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. A 34-year-old female passenger in his vehicle, along with the Norway man, sought their own treatment for injuries, deputies said.

Traffic on that area of U.S. 2 has been reduced from five lanes to two during ongoing construction work at the intersection of U.S. 141.

The Escanaba driver was cited for driving on the wrong side in two-way traffic.
